Sunshine Recieves 5 Star Evaluation

five startsSunshine Preschool Receives 5 STAR Rating

(Harlan, Ky.) –  Sunshine Preschool recently earned a 5-star rating by The Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Department for Community Based Services, and the Kentucky Department of Education.

The Harlan Independent Board of Education recognized Sunshine Preschool at the School Board meeting on Thursday. Providing preschool services for students in K3 and K4, Sunshine Preschool Director Shannon Lawson was elated with the 5-STAR rating and commented, “this rating validates the hard work and dedication that our staff members have to early childhood education. Sunshine has always provided quality care for children and families in our community. We are committed to helping students and families lay the proper groundwork for a quality school experience.”

To obtain a 5-STAR rating, early childcare providers must meet challenging criteria in the following domains: Family and Community Engagement, Classroom and Instructional Quality, Staff Qualifications and Professional Development, and Administrative and Leadership Practices. Evaluations include on-site visits, interviews and self-assessments.

Superintendent Charles Morton noted, “Starting school, even preschool, is an important milestone in the life of children and families. The 5-star rating received at Sunshine lets our community know that we have the resources available to help students prepare for Kindergarten and doing so ready to excel. Starting school off on the right foot is one of the greatest gifts a school can give a community. I am proud that we are able to offer such a quality service.”
