Description:
The content of Algebra II is organized around families of functions, with special emphasis on linear and quadratic functions. As you study each family of functions, you will learn to represent them in multiple ways – as verbal descriptions, equations, tables, and graphs. You will also learn to model realworld situations using functions in order to solve problems arising from those situations. In addition to the algebra content, Algebra II includes lessons on probability and data analysis as well as numerous examples and exercises involving geometry and trigonometry. These math topics often appear on standardized tests, so maintaining familiarity with them is very important. To help prepare students for this, Algebra II provides instruction and practice on standardized test questions in a variety of formats.
Students enrolled in Algebra are required by the Kentucky Department of Education to take the EndofCourse Exam. This assessment is not a schoolcreated assessment. It is an assessment that is standardized for the entire state of Kentucky, created by ACT. It assesses content that is required for proficient scores on the ACT Mathematics assessment. According to the policy of the Harlan Independent School Board, a student’s score on the Algebra II EndofCourse Exam will be counted as 10% of the student’s second semester grade.
