Description:
College Math is a required course for those students who have not met the minimum ACT requirement of 19 in mathematics. The goal of this course is to reinforce basic Algebra I & II concepts so that the student can enter college and not have to take Transition Math a paid course, for no credit.
The purpose of this course is to enable students to transition into a creditbearing college class which requires a minimum benchmark Mathematics score of 22 on the ACT. This course is a direct result of implementing Senate Bill 1 legislation which requires the development of a “unified strategy to reduce college remediation rates by at least fifty percent (50%( by 2014 from what they are in 2010” (“Unified strategy for college and career readiness,” 2010).
After completing the transitional course and meeting the college placement test (KYOTE) criteria, students will be able to enroll in college creditbearing math courses and increase the likelihood for successful completion in subsequent courses.
