8th Grade Arts and Humanities

Course Description:  The Arts and Humanities rotation is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of music and art skills.

Course Goals:  The Humanities class is structured to cover the Kentucky Core Content in art and music.  At the 8th Grade level, students will be studying the notes of the treble and bass clef staffs, basic rhythms, music terms, art vocabulary, and the art and music of several specific cultures.  These cultures include Greek and Roman art and architecture, the architecture of Ancient Egypt, and the art and music of the Medieval Period.

Major Course Projects:  There are no assigned textbooks for the Humanities class, which means that most projects will be completed in class.  Students will be doing research projects over the various cultures, learning to play the glockenspiel, and creating hands-on examples of most of the art vocabulary that will be studied.

Grading Scale:  The HHS/HMS grading scale found in the student agenda book will be followed in this class.  All homework and daily work grades will be averaged together and then test and project grades will be averaged together.  The two averages will be averaged again to reach the final grade.

  • Humanties Unit 1

Arts and Humanities students are currently working on their first unit, Elements of Art.  Students will be learning art vocabulary and applying those terms as they design their own art portfolio.
