The Harlan Independent School District celebrated with its annual Christmas Program. The audience was treated with a dance performed by the HES dance team and music from the many talented choirs and bands. It was a great day to be a dragon.

Karagan Baker makes an announcement at Harlan Middle School. Karagan earned "Principal for a Day" through the Accelerated Reader program. All students can earn rewards through reading books for Accelerated Reader.
The HHS Green Dragons Boys Basketball team knocked off 14th Region power, Breathitt County, to capture 3rd place in the WYMT Mountain Classic. Led by Jordan Akal with 35 points, Jae'dyn Gist chipped in 22 to provide the one-two knock out punch. Akal & Gist were named to the All Tournament squad.
The HHS Cheer squad also captured 3rd place in the tournament cheer competition.

Harlan Middle School Basketball Homecoming and 8th Grade Night have been rescheduled for January 3, 2022. Homecoming will begin at 5:30 and 8th Grade Night will begin after the 5/6 grade basketball game.

Students in Mr. Williams’ 5th grade social studies class celebrated learning about the Boston Tea Party by drinking tea! Students learned about causes of the American Revolution and then finished off with a fresh glass of tea 🇺🇸🫖

Congratulations to 8th grader Charlie Day on his selection for the Southeast Scholars Program! Charlie will participate in Southeast Scholars through the 12th grade and earn free tuition for an associates degree from any of the five Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College campuses. The Southeast Scholars program provides academic enrichment opportunities for students in Harlan, Bell, and Letcher counties, beginning in middle school. Current 6th graders interested in applying for next year’s program can contact Mrs. Adams in FRYSC.
