The Harlan High School Mens Basketball Team will be competing for their third consecutive trip to EKU tonight as they take on the Barbourville Tigers in a rematch of the 2021 CLASS A Championship game. We would like to invite our Green Dragon fans to come out to the Wallace 'Wah Wah' Jones Gymnasium to support our student athletes. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00PM. Help us PACK THE GYM!

Come out and support your Harlan High School Green Dragons tonight!!! The Harlan High School Boys Basketball team will be back in action on Monday, January 10th at Harlan High School in the semifinals of the 13th Region All A Classic Tournament. The Green Dragons have captured the 13th Regional title the last two years (2020 & 2021) and are winners of seven of their last eight games. The Dragons moved into the semifinal round after defeating Redbird on Saturday. They will take on Lynn Camp who knocked off Jackson Co to setup the final four. Barbourville will take on Middlesboro in the first game of the evening scheduled for 6:00 PM. The winners will advance to the Championship Game set for Tuesday, January 11th at 7:00 at Harlan High. Both games will be available on YouTube and Facebook. The All A State Tournament will be held at McBrayer Arena, Eastern Kentucky University, January 27 - January 30, 2022. The winners of the 13th Region will take on the 5th Region on Thursday, January 27th at 6:30PM.

2022 is looking a little brighter for our students and families at the Harlan Independent School District. Over the Christmas Break, major renovations took a giant step forward at Harlan High School with the redesign of the gymnasium floor. On behalf of the Harlan Independent Board of Education, we are excited to dedicate the gym to Harlan's most decorated athlete, Wallace 'Wah Wah' Jones. Green Dragons 🐉 🏀 took care of business in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge going 3-1 and knocking off Frederick Douglass in the final game of the tournament. Fighting back from a 16 point deficit in the first half, the Dragons held Frederick Douglass to two field goals in the fourth qtr to secure a 80-74 win. Junior Jae’dyn Gist scored 19 points and played stellar defense on his way to Player of The Game honors. Jordan Akal led all scores with 32 points and was named to the All Tournament Team. The Green Dragons will return to action next week at Wayne County vs Clinton, Tn. #GoBigGreen #FamilyofDragons

The Harlan Boys Basketball team will play Perry County Central Saturday, Dec. 18 in the DJ Begley Classic. The game will begin at 5:30 pm and will be streamed on NFHS Network. The NFHS Network requires a subscription to watch the games.

The Harlan Independent School District celebrated with its annual Christmas Program. The audience was treated with a dance performed by the HES dance team and music from the many talented choirs and bands. It was a great day to be a dragon.

The HHS Green Dragons Boys Basketball team knocked off 14th Region power, Breathitt County, to capture 3rd place in the WYMT Mountain Classic. Led by Jordan Akal with 35 points, Jae'dyn Gist chipped in 22 to provide the one-two knock out punch. Akal & Gist were named to the All Tournament squad. The HHS Cheer squad also captured 3rd place in the tournament cheer competition.
