In a special called meeting on Monday, the Harlan Independent Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Mrs. Jennifer Parsons as the next Superintendent of the Harlan Independent School District. She will assume the role on July 1, 2025, succeeding current Superintendent C.D. Morton, who previously announced his resignation effective June 30th. Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Parsons!

🐉 We would like to congratulate HMS Student, Andrew Alred for winning the Harlan County "Why my grandparent should be the AARP Kentucky Grandparent of the year" Essay Contest. Andrew was presented with a certificate and a check for this awesome accomplishment in a ceremony at Dairy Queen.
Andrew is a fantastic student that always works hard and demonstrates the standard of excellence that we are trying to achieve at Harlan Middle School. Congratulations, Andrew!!!

-Students in Mrs. Howard's class are working on reading maps and data analysis as we explore the uneven distribution of natural resources around the world
-Students in Mrs. Crow's class participated in a Jigsaw activity where they taught in specialized groups on transformations in the coordinate plane.
