Harlan Middle School students are earning Accelerated Reader prizes! Students that participate in AR get to sign the AR Board in the office. Readers become Leaders!


It's Playoff time, Dragon fans! 🏈 Just a reminder that this week's playoff game against Pineville will be played Thursday night instead of Friday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Pineville. 🐉


Congrats to the 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team for their big win tonight over the Barbourville Tigers! 🐉🏀


Under the steady leadership of Mia Pace, Harlan High School girls captured 3rd place in Class 1A Region 6 which qualified them for the State Championship meet held in Bourbon County on Saturday October 30th. Pace finished 9th overall with a personal record time of 24:40, qualifying her for a third trip to state competition.
Eighth grader, Dylan Cox was the lone runner for the Green Dragons on the boys side of competition. Cox ran a full season at the Middle School level breaking the school record multiple times throughout the year. With a strong showing in regional competition in the 5k High School event, Cox finished 9th overall while setting a personal record and qualifying for his first State Championship meet with an overall time of 19:38. Due to an illness he was unable to compete at state competition.

The Harlan Independent School District will be adding another resource to their toolbox in the fight to help students and families recover from the impact of the coronavirus. Tapping grant funds from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, Harlan FRYSC will receive $100,000 to implement additional mental health counseling services across the district.



First Priority Club meetings have started!
High School meetings are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:45 in the library.
Middle School meetings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 in the choir room.

Harlan Middle School has a new principal for the day! Serenity Brock earned enough points through Accelerated Reader to be "Principal for the Day!"


The Harlan High School Marching Band is headed to STATE!!! 🎶 The Dragons placed 4th in Regionals this past weekend. Their incredible performance has earned them a trip to Kroger Field to participate in State semifinals. The competition will begin Saturday at 11 am. In a recent published 2022 Niche.com rankings, Harlan Independent School District is ranked as the No. 1 Public School District in Kentucky with the Best Teachers.
Harlan Independent School District was also ranked #3 for the Best Place to Teach in Kentucky. The district was awarded an Overall Niche Grade of A and ranked #12 out of the 167 K-12 public school districts across the Commonwealth.
As reported by Niche.com, each school of Harlan Independent schools achieved top or upper placements in “Best Public Schools in Kentucky”:
• Harlan Elementary School: No. 11 (out of 708 public elementary schools)
• Harlan Middle/High School: No. 33 (out of 247 public high schools)
• Harlan Independent School District: No. 12 (out of 167 K-12 KY public school districts)
