Green Dragon families, we are excited to kick off the 2025-2026 school year with our annual Back-to-School Block Party on Monday, August 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM!

From 5:00–6:00 PM, all of our amazing K-12 teachers will be in their classrooms to welcome students and parents. It’s a great time to meet your child’s teacher, check out their classroom, and get ready for a strong start.

After that, stick around for food, fun, and games as we celebrate the beginning of another incredible year together.

We're gearing up for an exciting new school year at Harlan Independent, and we've got several important events to help students and families get a strong start! From Kindergarten Jumpstart to our Back-to-School Block Party, there's something for everyone as we count down to the first day of school.

Scott has three children, Courtney, Dillon, and Noah Lewis, and two Grandchildren, Adelynn and Anika. Courtney and Noah will also be part of the coaching staff both former coaches with the Middle School program. Just a reminder for any student in grades 7 - 12 interested in playing golf!! There is a meeting this evening at 7 PM at the baseball field regardless of rain!! If it is raining, the meeting will be held in the dugout.

What an incredible first day of HHS Marching Band Camp! 🎶🔥 The energy, hard work, and positive attitude from our students today were absolutely inspiring. Even in the heat, they showed up ready to learn, grow, and work together — and this is only the beginning! This group came ready to WORK — and you can already feel the team mindset building. 🐉 Congratulations to Our New Cross Country Coach! 🐉. We’re excited to introduce the new head coach of the Harlan High School Green Dragons Cross Country team — Mrs. Alred! Coach Alred brings 16 years of experience in education, including 11 years as a classroom teacher and 5 as an elementary school counselor. She's been coaching cross country for the past five years and has been a passionate recreational runner since she was 20. She’s married to Matthew Alred and is a proud mom to two future Dragons, Andrew (6th grade at HMS) and Emmett (3rd grade at HES). Coach Alred is most inspired by watching young athletes grow, push their limits, and experience the thrill of earning their first medal or crushing a new PR.
