🌟 Harlan Middle School Shines at State Future Problem Solving Contest! 🌟
We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate an incredible achievement by four of our Harlan Middle School sixth graders!
🎉 Gabi Burkhart, Bryleigh Ward, Amelia Chasteen, and Alivia Eversole competed this weekend in Louisville at the State Future Problem Solving Contest—and they finished 4th OVERALL in the entire state! 🏆👏
Coach Chris Howard expressed his immense pride in their hard work, saying:
“These young ladies have put in countless hours sharpening their problem-solving skills, and it showed on the state level. Their teamwork, creativity, and ability to think critically were truly impressive. They competed against some of the brightest students in Kentucky, and to finish 4th in the entire state is an outstanding accomplishment!”
Principal Andrew Williams echoed the excitement, sharing:
“We are beyond proud of Gabi, Bryleigh, Amelia, and Alivia! They have represented Harlan Middle School with excellence, determination, and incredible problem-solving abilities. Their success is a reflection of their hard work, their supportive families, and the outstanding academic environment at HMS. This is a huge achievement not just for them, but for our entire school community!”

-Students in Mrs. Saylor's class worked hard to present book projects to their classes!
-Students in Mrs. Howard's class completed a cookie rock lab to compare different cookies to the different types of rocks that they had to learn about!
🐉 We would like to give a special shoutout to two of our amazing students that are currently competing at the State MathCounts Competition at Western Kentucky University: Thomas Leo Miller and Clarissa Yost! These two embody the standard of excellence that is set forth in the Harlan Independent School District!

-Students in Mr. Varner's classes worked collaboratively to create presentations over the Zhou and Shang Dynasties of Ancient China! Students also explored the landscape of China through Google Map Exploration!
-Students in Mrs. Howard's classes studied digital and analog waves to see which type of transmission was more reliable! Students were immersed in the experience throughout the entire class and worked together to record and analyze data!
-Students in Mrs. Jackson's Friday club got to create and personalize their own slime!
