Harlan Independent Schools is gathering information from students, families, educators and community members to support our work in developing a district Portrait of a Learner. Built on a strong tradition of academic success, this effort will help guide how we prepare Harlan students—not just for graduation, but for life beyond our classrooms. The Portrait of a Learner will define the skills, mindsets, and experiences we believe every Dragon should develop to be confident, capable, and future-ready.
Your voice matters in this process. We invite you to take a few moments to complete this short survey and help shape the future of Harlan Independent Schools. The survey will be open through January 7th.

🎉Dragon Attendance Incentive Winner!🐉
This year, Harlan Independent Schools rolled out a brand-new attendance incentive to celebrate students who show up and give their best every single day!
Each week that a student has perfect attendance — meaning no check-ins late and no early checkouts — they earn a ticket for a chance to win a district prize at the end of the nine weeks. That means a student can earn up to nine chances per quarter! As part of the incentive, students must be present the day of the drawing to claim their prize.
👏Congratulations to this nine-weeks winner, Dallis Craycraft! Your dedication and commitment to being present each day truly make you a role model for your fellow Dragons.
💚A special thank you goes out to our community partner and generous prize donor, Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, for supporting our students and helping us celebrate the importance of attendance!

Mrs. Goss's third graders concluded their historical fiction unit by researching the Titanic. Students worked through each stage of the writing process —researching, writing, and revising —and are now finishing their published pieces. We are so proud of their hard work!
