Harlan Elementary students and families had a great time participating in the STEAM Tower Tumbler Lesson and the Family Mosaic Dragon Wing Build with Brick Mobile! 🐉 These hands-on activities gave students and families the opportunity to be creative, work together, and use their problem-solving and STEAM skills. A special thank you to PRI FSCS SSU and Barbara Ledford for helping make these wonderful learning opportunities possible for our students and families! 💚

📚 Special Guest Alert! 📚 Today, Mr. Noe’s class had a wonderful visit from Mrs. Elizabeth from the public library! Since the students have been reading the story At The Library this week, having Mrs. Elizabeth stop by was the perfect way to see the book come to life. She chatted with the class about what she does as a librarian, answered all of their curious questions, and even treated them to a few fun stories. A big thank you to Mrs. Elizabeth and the Harlan public library for taking the time to inspire these young readers! ❤️📖

🍳💚 First Grade Grandparents’ Breakfast! 💚🍳 We loved welcoming our first grade grandparents and families to HES for a special breakfast! Thank you for joining us and making wonderful memories with our students. 🐉💚

🔢✨ Place Value Fun in Mrs. Estep’s Class! ✨🔢 Mrs. Estep’s class started learning about place value! Students used bundling sticks to see how 10 ones make 1 ten, 10 tens make 1 hundred, and 10 hundreds make 1 thousand. What a fun, hands-on way to build an understanding of place value! 💯📚

Good luck to our Harlan Green Dragons Cross Country team as they compete in Lee County, Virginia, this morning! Run strong and make Harlan proud! 🐉💚🏃

💗🐉 Dragons Against Cancer! 🐉💗 Harlan Independent Schools will hold our Annual Dragons Against Cancer Walk on Thursday, October 8th at 1:30 PM! Students can participate with a $1 donation and a signed permission slip. All donations and T-shirt profits will benefit the UK Markey Cancer Center. 👕 Cancer Walk T-shirts are $15 and available in pink or gray! Sizes: Youth Small – Adult XL XXL: $18 XXXL: $19 XXXXL: $20 T-shirt orders are due Friday, September 25th! 💵 Checks should be made payable to Harlan Ind. Mrs. Varner’s 2nd graders have been busy exploring the different landforms and bodies of water found around our world! 🌍 Students had the opportunity to create their own models of mountains and observe how rivers flow around and through land. Through hands-on learning, they were able to see how land and water interact and make connections to what they’ve been learning in class.
