HES recently hosted an event in celebration of World Health Day, in collaboration with 21st Century, PRI, Mrs. Wilson, FRYSC, and the 4-H Extension Office. The event was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle for students and families. The attendees were treated to a variety of wellness lifestyle presentations, a yoga class, and a presentation on MyPlate. In addition, the students got the opportunity to create their MyPlate crafts. We are grateful for the partnerships that made this event possible and the opportunity to encourage healthy living among our students and their families. 🍽️🍎🍊🍌

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 19th, 2024 Harlan High School Set To Announce New Head Football Coach [Harlan, KY] - Harlan High School is excited to announce the selection of our new head football coach. The official announcement will take place at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 26th, 2024, in the Harlan High School Library. The new head coach brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth among student-athletes. Their leadership is poised to elevate the Harlan High School football program to new heights. Members of the media and the community are invited to attend the announcement event, which will be held at 420 E. Central St. Harlan, KY 40831, beginning at 1:30PM. There will be an opportunity to meet the new head coach and hear their vision for the future of Harlan High School football. Great News!! We have resolved our plumbing and water issues and will operate on a normal schedule for tomorrow April 19, 2024. All Harlan Independent Schools will be on their normal schedules for Friday, April 19, 2024.

The Harlan Elementary School Derby Day celebrations will be on Friday, April 26th. 🐴🧲 🍳The annual HES Derby Breakfast will be served for 3rd and 4th grades. 🌹🐎Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students will participate in our 4th Annual Run for the Roses Derby race! 📸Parents may begin lining the streets downtown at 12:00. We look forward to seeing our students dressed in their Derby best and running their races for the roses! 🌹 👒🎩

Ms. Mary’s 2nd-4th grade Library Rotation classes watched a video about Pablo Picasso and his cubism technique. Each student got to create their own artwork that will be displayed in the library hallway. Fantastic work! 🎨🎨

🎶🎼HHS Seniors Allyssa Burkhart, Ethan Farley, and Morgan Pyles performed at the Upper Cumberland Retired Teachers Association meeting at the Harlan Center.  Andrew Alred, the grandson of retired teacher Karen Alred, read the poem, It Takes a Heap of Learning, written by Frances Ball in 1982. 🎶🎼📖

We would like to extend a huge thank you and shout out to Every Piece Matters for donating two Talk to Me communication boards for our students. The boards are located on our HES playground and in our HES gymnasium. Barbara Ledford, PRI School Site Coordinator for HES, submitted the request for this wonderful resource for our students and faculty.
