Harlan High School’s Veterans Day Program has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 13, at 9:30 AM in the gymnasium.
We invite all parents, families, and community members to join us as we honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served our country. This special ceremony is one of our favorite traditions, and we look forward to sharing it with our school and community.

This month, Dragons Beyond the Bell at HES will only meet on Wednesday, November 12th and Monday, November 17th.
Come out and cheer on our Harlan Green Dragons as they take on the Pineville Mountain Lions this evening! The action starts with our 3rd/4th grade boys at 6:00 PM, followed by the 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th grade boys’ teams.

Harlan High School will proudly host our annual Veterans Day Program on Monday, November 11, at 9:30 AM in the gymnasium. We invite all students, families, and community members to join us as we honor the brave men and women who have served our country.

This year, Harlan Independent Schools rolled out a brand-new attendance incentive to celebrate students who show up and give their best every single day!
Each week that a student has perfect attendance — meaning no check-ins late and no early checkouts — they earn a ticket for a chance to win a district prize at the end of the nine weeks. That means a student can earn up to nine chances per quarter! As part of the incentive, students must be present the day of the drawing to claim their prize.
👏 Congratulations to this nine-weeks winner, Hunter Brock! Your dedication and commitment to being present each day truly make you a role model for your fellow Dragons.
💚 A special thank you goes out to our community partner and generous prize donor, the Boys & Girls Club of Appalachia, for supporting our students and helping us celebrate the importance of attendance!

Throughout the day, Senator Madon joined families for the HES Grandparents Breakfast, toured classrooms to see students actively engaged in learning and leading their own projects, participated in the District Cancer Walk, and spoke to classes about public service, civic engagement, and leadership. He also spent meaningful time with teachers and staff, celebrating successes, listening to their experiences, and hearing firsthand about the opportunities and challenges in education today.

There will be a concession set up - brought to you by The Dragon's Kitchen, along with the debut of Harlan Scoops - offering delicious rolled ice cream with your choice of toppings. Harlan students have teamed up with J & J Creamery for their fabulous recipes.
Everyone is welcome. Admission for the movie is always free; however, donations are much appreciated.
Proceeds raised will be going towards the Senior Class Trip in the spring.
Superintendent Jennifer Parsons provided coffee for all Harlan Independent employees this morning as a small gesture of appreciation.
It’s just one way to say thank you for the dedication, preparation, and hard work our staff pour into making Harlan Independent a great place to learn and work every single day. 💚🐉
