Harlan Independent Schools invites all Green Dragon families to help us honor the veterans in their families as part of our upcoming Veterans Day Program on November 11th!

We would love to recognize the brave men and women who have served our country by including their information and photographs in a special video that will be displayed during our district's Veterans Day program.

📸 Do you have a veteran in your family? We invite you to complete the Google Form attached to this post and submit information and a picture of your veteran so we can include them in this special tribute.

📌 Important Reminder: If you have submitted your veteran's information in the past, it will automatically be included in this year's video. There is NO NEED to resubmit!

Let's come together as a Family of Dragons to celebrate, remember, and honor the veterans who have made a difference in our lives and our nation. Thank you for helping us recognize their service and sacrifice!

💚🐉 What a weekend for Harlan Cross Country! Our runners traveled to Lynn Camp to get a feel for the regional course ahead of next weekend. Despite brutally cold and windy conditions, these kids persevered and delivered some incredible performances, with multiple runners earning season or personal best times! 👏 Special shoutouts to Lillie Carver for breaking 24 minutes and Cruz Galloway for breaking 20 minutes, both setting new personal bests! Most of our middle school varsity runners also tackled TWO races in one day, with many earning personal bests in BOTH races! Tonight, we celebrate the incredible Class of 2027 Green Dragons! 🏈📣⛳🏃‍♂️🎺

Before tonight’s home football game, Harlan High School will recognize our seniors from football, cheerleading, golf, cross country, and marching band, honoring their hard work, dedication, and contributions to the Green Dragon family over the past four years.

📣 Senior Night festivities begin at 6:00 PM!

We invite all Green Dragon families, friends, and fans to come out, show your support, and help us celebrate these outstanding seniors. From the field to the sidelines, the golf course to the cross-country trails, and the marching band, these Dragons have made their mark on Harlan High School, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished!

The Class of 2027 is a special part of our Green Dragon family, and tonight is all about recognizing the memories they've made, the traditions they've carried on, and the legacy they're building. Let's fill the stands with Green and White and make this a night they will never forget!

🍁🍂 Falling Into Poetry at HES!🍂🍁 Our second graders have been exploring poetry through a fun fall-themed writing activity! Students created acrostic poems using the letters in the word FALL to brainstorm descriptive words and phrases that capture the season. This creative activity helped students strengthen their writing skills, expand their vocabulary, practice using descriptive language, and express their ideas through poetry. Students also decorated their own fall leaves to bring their writing to life! 🧡🍁✏️

The Kentucky Department of Education has released the 2026 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) accountability results, and Harlan Independent School District is proud to report strong academic performances once again!

🏆 Harlan High School received the highest rating of Blue and ranks #24 out of 228 high schools in Kentucky! Harlan Elementary School earned a Green rating, and Harlan Middle School earned a Yellow rating.

👏 We are incredibly proud of our students, teachers, principals, and support staff, whose hard work and dedication have helped Harlan Independent School District achieve outstanding academic results.

The District looks forward to celebrating our amazing KSA results in the weeks to come! 🎉🐉

🍬🎃 Sweet Math Learning! ➕➖ Students had a sweet time practicing addition and subtraction using candy corn! This fun, hands-on activity helped students strengthen their counting skills, build number sense, and solve addition and subtraction problems within 20. By using candy corn as a math manipulative, students were able to model problems, explore different strategies, and develop a deeper understanding of addition and subtraction! 🧡📚

🦸‍♂️❤️ RED RIBBON WEEK AT HES! ❤️🦸‍♀️ Harlan Elementary is celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 26–30! 🎉 Join us for a fun-filled week of dress-up days as we encourage our students to make healthy choices and stay drug free! ❤️ Monday: Dress Like a Hero 🦸‍♂️ 🐾 Tuesday: Camo or Animal Print 💚 Wednesday: Dress Like Your Everyday Hero 💤 Thursday: Pajama Day 🎃 Friday: Halloween Costumes ✨ Be a Hero, Stay Drug Free! ✨

🔢🎉 Learning Through Bingo! Mrs. Goldey’s class had fun playing Bingo while strengthening their number recognition and practicing different counting strategies! This engaging, hands-on activity helped students build number sense, improve their counting skills, and develop mathematical thinking—all while learning through play! 💚🐉

🤠💚 Mamas & Cowboys Dance! 💚🤠 A big thank you to all the families who joined us for our Mamas & Cowboys Dance! We loved seeing everyone come together for an evening filled with dancing, laughter, and special memories! Thank you for making this event so wonderful! 🐉💕

🎗️💗 Harlan Elementary students and staff came together for our Cancer Walk! 🎉 Celebrating Perfect Attendance at HES! 🎉 126 students at Harlan Elementary School achieved perfect attendance during the month of September! 🌟 Today, these students were rewarded for their dedication and commitment to showing up and being ready to learn each day.
