Southeast South-Central Educational (SESC) Cooperative held a recognition lunch Saturday to honor school districts, schools, and individual teachers for their part in the New Teacher Center (NTC) program. This program brought educational coaches into the Harlan Independent to help teachers of various experience levels with guidance in planning and teaching practices. Services were also provided to strengthen other teachers to take on instructional coaching roles as well as inform administrative staff on best practices to improve student achievement. Harlan Independent has been a part of the NTC program since it began in the 2020-2021 academic year. This year marks the end of the grant that provided the funding for the program and it was a time for celebration. Dr. Gregory Edens attended the event to represent Harlan Independent and was awarded with a certificate of recognition and a gift card for his participation in the program. SESC and the NTC program will be recognized on the national level for the work they have done in the southeast region of Kentucky. The data gleaned from the program will be used to inform and support other rural educational programs aimed at providing teacher support and professional learning community development. Dr. Edens stated, β€œSESC has provided assistance within our school district to strengthen my teaching practices and helped me to provide even better educational opportunities for my students.”
