Our Leadership and General Intellect Gifted & Talented students recently had the opportunity to visit The Harlan Museum, where learning came to life beyond the classroom walls.
During their visit, students explored the rich history of Harlan County, gaining a deeper understanding of how our region originated and evolved over time. From early settlement stories to the cultural and economic influences that shaped the area, the experience provided meaningful, real-world connections to their learning.
Experiences like this help students grow in knowledge while also encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and a greater appreciation for the community they call home. 🐉

HHS Beta Club Induction will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, in the Harlan Elementary Auditorium. Because children will still be in the building for after-school programming, parents and family members must bring an ID and sign in at the door. Please also remember that parking is not permitted in front of the cafeteria or behind the elementary school.

Welcome back from spring break! As we jump back into the routine, it feels like the perfect time to recognize some of the many things our high school teachers do that often go unnoticed. Several mornings before school, teachers have been opening their classrooms early for small group study sessions and extra help for students. Whether it is preparing for upcoming tests, offering support, or simply giving students more time to learn, that kind of dedication does not go unnoticed. We are so thankful for our high school teachers who go above and beyond every day to support our students in big and small ways. Their commitment, care, and willingness to give extra time make a difference, and we are grateful for all they do. Below, Mrs. Freyer’s class is pictured in a study session prepping for an exam.

Congratulations to the Harlan Green Dragons on a dominant 14–2 victory over the Cosby Eagles! The Dragons came out swinging and put together an impressive performance on the road.

A special shoutout to junior Eli Freyer for an incredible night at the plate! Eli crushed a grand slam in the 2nd inning and followed it up with a two-run home run in the 5th, helping power the Dragons to the big win.

The Green Dragons will hit the road again Friday night as they travel to take on the Letcher County Central Cougars.

Congratulations to our Harlan track athletes on a strong weekend of competition! At Friday’s Harlan County All Comers: Harper Carmical placed 1st in the 800m and 2nd in the 1600m. Gibson Wilder placed 2nd in the 300 Hurdles. Izack Saylor placed 3rd in High Jump. Today at John S. Battle High School in Bristol, VA: Zoë Lawson placed 2nd in High Jump, 8th in the 1600m, and 11th in the 800m. Torrie Sundy earned a PR in the 100m and a PR in the 200m. JaLynn Pennington earned a PR in High Jump and a PR in the 100m. We are proud of all of our athletes for their hard work and accomplishments. Go Big Green! 🐉🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️
