Harlan Independent High School has teamed together with BoomKY to launch 4 entrepreneurship projects run exclusively by students. The four startups—The Burnt Platter, Dragon's Drive-In Theater, Sweet n Saucy Gourmet Popcorn, and Dragon Scoops Rolled Ice Cream—reflect the creativity, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit of Harlan’s students. The Burnt Platter specializes in custom-branded charcuterie boards featuring premium meats and cheeses. Dragon's Drive-In Theater brings the fun of a pop-up movie theater experience to the community, creating an affordable entertainment option. Sweet n Saucy Gourmet Popcorn offers unique, handcrafted popcorn flavors tailored to local tastes. Dragons Scoops Rolled Ice Cream introduces rolled ice cream to Harlan, giving the town a sweet new treat for residents and visitors alike. These businesses aren’t just classroom projects—they’re real ventures built from the ground up by students who are learning how to develop a product, manage operations, and engage customers. Through BoomKY’s curriculum, these students have gained hands-on experience in marketing, budgeting, and customer service, turning their ideas into thriving local businesses.

Community Problem Solving 🌟2nd place at KAAC State Finals Competition 🌟 Congratulations, Salena Amro, Amy Roman, and Rihanna Montanaro.🐉🐉🐉 🧠Community Problem Solving is an engaging and impactful competition that challenges students to become active agents of change in their communities. As part of the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC), this program encourages participants from grades 4-12 to identify real-world issues, conduct thorough research, and implement creative solutions. Students work individually or in teams to tackle problems ranging from local school concerns to global challenges. The competition not only hones critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also fosters teamwork, leadership, and civic responsibility. Through the process of developing a project, implementing solutions, and presenting their findings, students gain valuable real-world experience and make tangible differences in their communities. This unique blend of academic rigor and community service prepares students for future challenges while instilling a sense of social awareness and responsibility. 📚 #familyofdragons #academicexcellence
