It's Playoff time, Dragon fans! 🏈 Just a reminder that this week's playoff game against Pineville will be played Thursday night instead of Friday. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Pineville. 🐉


Under the steady leadership of Mia Pace, Harlan High School girls captured 3rd place in Class 1A Region 6 which qualified them for the State Championship meet held in Bourbon County on Saturday October 30th. Pace finished 9th overall with a personal record time of 24:40, qualifying her for a third trip to state competition.
Eighth grader, Dylan Cox was the lone runner for the Green Dragons on the boys side of competition. Cox ran a full season at the Middle School level breaking the school record multiple times throughout the year. With a strong showing in regional competition in the 5k High School event, Cox finished 9th overall while setting a personal record and qualifying for his first State Championship meet with an overall time of 19:38. Due to an illness he was unable to compete at state competition.

The Harlan Independent School District will be adding another resource to their toolbox in the fight to help students and families recover from the impact of the coronavirus. Tapping grant funds from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund, Harlan FRYSC will receive $100,000 to implement additional mental health counseling services across the district.

High School meetings are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:45 in the library.
Middle School meetings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 in the choir room.

Seniors! Interested in attending the University of the Cumberlands? Were you unable to finish your FAFSA with Miss Bowman from KHEAA? University of the Cumberlands is hosting a FAFSA Completion Night on Thursday, November 18, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Cumberlands’ campus. They will provide students/families with one-on-one assistance from start to finish. Each student/family can reserve a 25-minute time slot with a financial aid trained counselor by signing up on their website: www.ucumberlands.edu/joinus. Pizza, refreshments, and giveaways will be provided. In addition, students will receive a “College Planning Tips” sheet that will serve as an aid through any college admissions process.


Any senior interested in pursuing a career in business or education? We've got a scholarship opportunity for you! KASBO awards $2,500 scholarships to three Kentucky high school graduating seniors who will major in business or education. Interested students must go to www.kasbo.com to apply.
Additional information: All applicants must obtain two (2) letters of recommendation. One recommendation must be school-related and one recommendation must be either community-related or church-related. These letters must be emailed directly to scholarships.kasbo@KASBO.com from the author. The student’s name and high school should be in the subject line. (example: John Smith Adair County High). Once the application is received KASBO will send a request to the high school counselor to verify enrollment and transcript information.
Finalists will be contacted to schedule an interview. Interviews are conducted electronically.
The application and letters of recommendation must be received by December 15, 2020.
Scholarship recipients will be selected and notified no later than March 31, 2021.

SENIORS!! The Kentucky Concrete Association is pleased to announce that the annual KCA William T. Robertson High School Essay Scholarship Contest is open and accepting essay submissions.
The William T. Robertson High School Essay Scholarship Contest is open to all Kentucky resident High School Seniors. The contest winner will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship to be paid to the college of their choice in their freshman year. The winner will also be invited to attend the KCA Winter Convention in Lexington, KY in February 2022 to accept the award.

The essay submission process is the same as last year whereby paper submissions will not be accepted. All essays must be submitted online via the link that is included below.
The essay rules are as follows:
Student must be a current senior in high school graduating in the 2021 – 2022 school year.
Essays must address the essay prompt directly.
Essays must be written by a single student and shall not be collaborative in nature.
Essays must be submitted using the online submission form.
Essays must be received by December 3, 2021 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.
Essays must be limited to 600 words.

As part of the program, the district will be recognizing any Veteran related to a student or staff member of Harlan Independent School District.
