
The Harlan Elementary School Derby Day celebrations will be on Friday, April 26th. 🐴🧲 🍳The annual HES Derby Breakfast will be served for 3rd and 4th grades. 🌹🐎Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students will participate in our 4th Annual Run for the Roses Derby race! 📸Parents may begin lining the streets downtown at 12:00. We look forward to seeing our students dressed in their Derby best and running their races for the roses! 🌹 👒🎩

Ms. Mary’s 2nd-4th grade Library Rotation classes watched a video about Pablo Picasso and his cubism technique. Each student got to create their own artwork that will be displayed in the library hallway. Fantastic work! 🎨🎨

Andrew Alred, the grandson of retired teacher Karen Alred, read the poem, It Takes a Heap of Learning, written by Frances Ball in 1982. 🎶🎼📖

Fun things are happening in Ms. Ashley Overbay’s 3rd-grade science class! Students have been studying the life cycle of plants and animals. During this process, they have furthered their knowledge by learning the germination process of tomato plants and growing their own. Students have also taken part in monitoring the 21-day incubation process and studying the life cycle of chicks. 🐣🐥🪴

The PRI FSCS SSU Grant treated Harlan Elementary Families to a fun-filled evening of painting with Willing Hearts from Cumberland, Ky. The artist used mathematical shapes, fractions, and more to help students create their masterpieces! Every participant took home their own canvas artwork! We are excited to welcome them back tomorrow evening for another night filled with fun! 🎨🖌️











Mrs. Varner’s class studied the structure and properties of matter by investigating to answer the question, “Are bubbles always round?” Students enjoyed spending time outside to conduct their investigation! 🫧🫧
