The Harlan High School Band achieved a Distinguished Overall rating in the KMEA District 10 Band Assessment this week. They received Distinguished ratings in both Sight Reading and On Stage performances, leading to their impressive overall performance rating. Congratulations to our talented band members! 🎶🎵🐉




🏆 Harlan Lady Dragons Dominate Barbourville Lady Tigers 10-0! 🐉
Addison Jackson shined with 3 hits, including a home run! The team scored early with runs from Jordyn Smith, Jackson, Abby Fields, and Ally Kirby in the first inning. They sealed the victory with 4 more runs in the seventh, highlighted by Jackson’s homer and contributions from Raegan Goodman and Gracie Hensley.
Pitcher Jordyn Smith was stellar, allowing no runs and striking out 8. Harlan collected 14 hits, with Ella Lisenbee, Ava Nunez, Ella Farley, and Abby Fields collecting multiple hits and 5 stolen bases, showcasing their strong offense and solid defense.
Next up: Harlan travels to face Elliott County on Monday! 💪🥎

🐉 Congratulations to our HHS sophomores Gwen Toll and Murtaza Hussain for being chosen as 2025 Rogers Scholars! They will participate in an intensive week-long program, where they will work on building their leadership skills, participate in a series of team-building exercises, receive hands-on instructional training from professional experts in engineering, healthcare, and civic engagement, and interact with nationally recognized business leaders and entrepreneurs. The program focuses on developing skills in leadership, technology, entrepreneurship, and community service.

Harlan Elementary students in Mrs. Dixon’s math class are wrapping up their measurement and data unit with engaging activities. Students focused on determining the length of objects by using nonstandard units of measurement. They were also introduced to standard units and measured the length of objects using appropriate tools.











In an exciting matchup, the Harlan Lady Dragons rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the Middlesboro Lady Yellow Jackets 9-6 tonight. The Lady Dragons turned the game around in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs, highlighted by Ella Lisenbee's two-RBI single. Harlan’s offense was led by Ella Farley with three hits, while Lisenbee, Farley, and Addison Jackson each contributed two RBIs. Jackson hit her 19th career homerun and 2nd of this season! Harlan will face the Barbourville Lady Tigers tomorrow. Go Dragons! 🐉🥎

🐉 Great things are happening at HMS!!!:
-Students in Ms. Waller's advisory class are doing a courage walk where they identify different ways of displaying courage in our school. This goes along with our theme of Courage for Capturing Kids Hearts!
-Students in Ms. Waller's class were reading and analyzing Supreme Court cases for their argumentative unit. They are working collaboratively to rank the arguments from each side based on persuasiveness!
-Students in Mrs. Wheeler's are working collaboratively on inference task cards!
