Under the steady leadership of Mia Pace, Harlan High School girls captured 3rd place in Class 1A Region 6 which qualified them for the State Championship meet held in Bourbon County on Saturday October 30th. Pace finished 9th overall with a personal record time of 24:40, qualifying her for a third trip to state competition.
Eighth grader, Dylan Cox was the lone runner for the Green Dragons on the boys side of competition. Cox ran a full season at the Middle School level breaking the school record multiple times throughout the year. With a strong showing in regional competition in the 5k High School event, Cox finished 9th overall while setting a personal record and qualifying for his first State Championship meet with an overall time of 19:38. Due to an illness he was unable to compete at state competition.

The Harlan Independent School District will be adding another resource to their toolbox in the fight to help students and families recover from the impact of the coronavirus. Tapping grant funds from the Governorβs Emergency Education Relief Fund, Harlan FRYSC will receive $100,000 to implement additional mental health counseling services across the district.

First Priority Club meetings have started!
High School meetings are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:45 in the library.
Middle School meetings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:45 in the choir room.

As part of the program, the district will be recognizing any Veteran related to a student or staff member of Harlan Independent School District. The Harlan High School Marching Band will be making its thirteenth consecutive trip to the Kentucky Music Educations Association (KMEA) State Marching competition after a rain covered performance at Bourbon County High School.
Under the direction of Mrs. Betsy Burkhart and Mr. Jeremy Bell, the Green Dragon Band and Color Guard finished 4th place at the KMEA Regional Quarterfinals earning them a coveted spot in the State Semifinals to be held at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday, October 30th.
