Harlan Elementary students concluded the final week of Dragons Beyond the Bell: Extreme with a field trip to the aquarium! Students had fun exploring and learning and even got to dissect a shark! 🦈

💚Mackenzie has been a member of the Green Dragon Family since she began K-3 at Sunshine School. She was a part of Harlan High School’s graduating class of 2018. In high school, Mackenzie excelled academically and athletically at HHS. She won three KHSAA State Championships in Track and Field and won back-to-back 13th Region Basketball Championships, earning appearances in the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Basketball Tournament. After a successful academic and athletic career in basketball and track and field, she went on to play Divison II basketball at The University of Virginia's College at Wise where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in elementary education.
It has always been a dream of Mackenzie’s to return to Harlan Independent School District to teach. She is thrilled to begin her teaching career at Harlan Elementary School this fall and looks forward to carrying on the rich tradition of excellence of the Green Dragon Family. 🐉

We would like to congratulate one of Harlan’s finest, Jordan Akal, on signing with King University today! Jordan finishes his Green Dragon career as one of the most successful student-athletes in our county's history. Jordan scored over 2,600 points and led the team to several 13th Region All-A Championships, an All-A State Semifinals appearance, and a 52nd District Championship. Jordan was also named a finalist for Mr. Basketball in Kentucky.
We will be excited to continue to cheer Jordan on next year at King! And, of course, once a Dragon, always a Dragon! 🐉🐉🐉

We had a fun-filled day with special visitors from 4-H, Ms. Heather and Ms. Lisa! Students learned about My Plate and the five food groups. They made bracelets, and the beads represented each food group. Their favorite part was getting to make their own butter and try it out on bread, and it was delicious! Thank you, Ms. Heather and Ms. Lisa, for spending the morning with us at Dragons Beyond the Bell: Extreme! 🐉🤍💚

Ms. Melanie Adams from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) stopped by and spoke with our students about various careers.
