Green Dragons 🐉 🏀 took care of business in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge going 3-1 and knocking off Frederick Douglass in the final game of the tournament.
Fighting back from a 16 point deficit in the first half, the Dragons held Frederick Douglass to two field goals in the fourth qtr to secure a 80-74 win.
Junior Jae’dyn Gist scored 19 points and played stellar defense on his way to Player of The Game honors.
Jordan Akal led all scores with 32 points and was named to the All Tournament Team.
The Green Dragons will return to action next week at Wayne County vs Clinton, Tn. #GoBigGreen #FamilyofDragons

Playing in back to back games in the Dribble Drive Classic, the HHS Dragons 🐉 🏀 picked up another win vs 16th Region Rowan County 61-55 in overtime.
Junior Will Austin was unstoppable around the basket converting on a key three point play in Overtime to push the lead out of reach. Austin had 20 points on his way to being named Player of The Game.
The Dragons will return to action tomorrow in the Dribble Drive Challenge at South Laurel High. Opponent and time TBA.

Harlan High School Senior John Mark Bryson was recently honored by the Harlan Independent Board of Education for his selection to the highly coveted Kentucky Governor's Scholar Program.
Bryson spent a five-week summer session on the campus of Bellarmine University with other rising scholars from across the Commonwealth.
The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The program’s mission is to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders. Selection for the program is highly competitive, with an application process similar to that of prestigious colleges and universities.
Bryson noted that his time on campus was extremely helpful, commenting “It was great to be around so many highly competitive academic students. It really helped motivate me with regard to college plans and preparation.” While on campus, Bryson stated that he developed great friendships that ultimately influenced his thought process on attending college in Kentucky. “The University of Kentucky is now very high on my list of colleges. The program really did a good job of promoting and encouraging students to invest in the Commonwealth.” Bryson is interested in studying finance while at college.
John Mark is the son of Dr. Stephen Bryson and Tara of Harlan, KY.

The Harlan Independent Schools has an immediate opening for a School Media Librarian. This position will serve both Harlan Elementary and Harlan Middle/High School for the 2021-2022 school year.
