Students enrolled in the Save the Children Literacy Program have been learning about space. Our students explored space by visiting several exciting centers that featured: moon sand, moon rocks, a space center blast-off, and a telescope exhibit. The children got to play golf on the moon, just like Alan Shepard did in 1971, study moon rocks, play with moon sand, view a space launch, observe the stars and constellations, and play games that featured comprehension questions from the book we read this past week. Students also got to eat like the astronauts, getting to sample freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches that astronauts would eat in space, along with a choice of Moon Pies and Star Crunch. The kids had a blast!

Just a reminder about Harlan Independent FRYSC's event, Say Yes to a Dress event, being held on Monday, February 6th from 4:00 - 6:30 pm at the Harlan Center.
The event, open to the public, is a formal dress buy and sell event. Bring your previously worn dresses to sell or you may also browse through a collection of FREE dresses for your next formal event. Come check out the formal dresses for your next homecoming, pageant, prom, snowball, father/daughter dance, etc.
Also, any HHS and HMS girls that attend the event will be entered to win a free yearbook, courtesy of FRYSC!

Harlan Elementary Kindergarten and First-Grade students with perfect attendance for the month of January were “happy” to be treated to lunch at McDonald's today! The students enjoyed a Happy Meal and a fun trip with friends! 😊 #attendancematters #HESrocks
Students in Ms. Wilson’s Health & PE classes for the 3rd Nine Weeks participated in Hand Washing lessons this week. Mrs. Adams and Mrs. Billie from FRYSC continued teaching the importance of hand washing and how that helps us stay healthy. The students really enjoyed seeing all the “germs” on their hands under the black light, but were most excited when they got to see how well they did in getting rid of the “germs”.

Harlan Musettes are selling Singing 🎶 Telegrams for Valentine’s Day 💚
For singing telegrams delivered during the school day the price is $5. If a singing telegram will be delivered after school then the price is $10.
The songs will be sung during 6th period (1:15 PM - 2:10 PM) on Tuesday February 14th. If they cannot all be completed that day then the remaining ones will be delivered February 15th. Contact Miss Schraeder at the High School if you are interested in purchasing one or would like more information!
Deadline to purchase a singing telegram is February 9th.
