🖥 Exploring Computer Science and Google Educator Level 1 Certification In the exciting world of 9th-grade Introduction to Computer Science class, students have the opportunity to delve into the foundations of computer programming and digital technology. One fascinating aspect of this course is the introduction to the Google Educator Level 1 Certification. This certification provides students the skills and knowledge to effectively use Google for education, including tools like Google Classroom, Drive, and Docs. By earning this certification, students can showcase their proficiency in utilizing technology for learning and collaboration, setting a solid foundation for future academic and professional endeavors. We want to thank the Harlan Independent School FRYSC for providing funding for our Google certification. Kindergarten students at HES had a fun surprise during Read Across America week! Shep Shepherd (father of kindergarten student Brystal) surprised the kids by letting them tour his truck! Thanks to the partnership with Walmart, students toured Mr. Shepherd’s truck and received a coloring book teaching them about safety! The kids had a blast exploring and learning about the bunk beds, refrigerator, and truck driver life. Students got to blow the horn and see the engine. This was a fun experience for our kindergarten students and teachers, too!

In the science lab, the first-grade students have been learning about the engineering process. They read the book, "How to Catch a Leprechaun," and then worked together to build a model of their traps. But that's not all! The science lab was a buzzing place this week! Second-grade students were busy investigating the properties of different materials and seeing if they could build a tall tower using only paper clips and index cards. The aim was to construct a tower at least 12 inches tall. We have a lot of fun at school! 🐉💚

Harlan Elementary music classes collaborated with our Kindergarten students and taught them a fun song using percussion instruments. The fourth-grade music students used xylophones, drums, shakers, and a triangle! The kindergarten students learned the lyrics to the song and were taught some fun motions! Everyone had a blast dancing and singing together! 🎶🎵#musicmatters

🥎 Softball Scrimmage!! 🥎 Tonight, the Lady Dragons will host the Jenkins Cavaliers in a scrimmage. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:00 PM. It's an absolutely gorgeous day, come out and support these hard working ladies!! #letsgogreen #playball #familyofdragons 🐉

Elliot Lane and Elliona Pennington won a Prize for a free pizza from Monticello Bank on STEAM Night. They caught the most money in the money machine. Their siblings Charlie Lane and Landon Pennington are representing them. Congratulations!! 🍕🍕💵

4th Grade Students at Harlan Elementary School competed and participated in the Science Fair during STEAM Night. Students used a six-step scientific method process to investigate phenomena of their choosing. Students received prizes of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in their academic classes and overall. 🏀 It's GAMEDAY, Dragon fans! 🏀 Tonight, the Lady Dragons take on the Knox Central Lady Panthers in the first round of the 13th Regional tournament. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm at the Corbin Arena. Student tickets can be bought at the high school today for $7 (exact change, please) . Adult tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
