2nd-4th grade students participating in Dragons Beyond the Bell concluded the week by visiting the Knoxville Zoo. Students were able to feed and pet the turtles at the turtle exhibit. The oldest turtles that they interacted with was 150 years old! 🐢

We would once again like to send our condolences to the family and friends of HMS Student Timothy Hickson.
The visitation for Timothy will take place on June 14th, 2023 from 5PM to 8PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. On June 15th, 2023 a funeral service for Timothy will also be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home beginning at 3PM. Burial will follow at Evarts Memorial Gardens.
We would like to continue to ask for all of our Dragon family to remember Timothy's family in the coming days.

🏋️ "The Challenge" week, hosted by Harlan 21st Century Teen Club, will be postponed until the week of June 26th. The previously scheduled "Whippin' Up Success" week is still slated for the week of June 19th and will now be the starting week for these fun summer camps. There is still time to register if any incoming 5th through 12th graders are looking for some fun activities for this summer! #Harlan21cclc
We will be hosting a Time of Remembrance candlelight service at the Harlan football field tonight from 8 to 9 pm. This will be a time of reflection and support for all who loved Timmy. ALL are welcome. 💚
Also, we will have the school open tomorrow with counselors available for students or staff needing someone to talk to.
The Harlan Independent School District would like to send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Harlan Middle School student Timothy Hickson. Timothy was special to many people and brought many smiles to his friends and staff in the hallways and classrooms at HMS. Timothy also participated in many sports where he was able to enjoy the games that he loved while spending time with the friends he loved even more. No words can truly describe how much Timothy meant to so many. We all mourn this tragic loss and send our prayers to his family and friends on this terrible night.
Harlan High School will be open on Monday for any students who want to speak with our counselors. The Harlan Independent School District would like to join together to support our students, staff, and community throughout the coming days.
HES students participating in Dragons Beyond the Bell Extreme took a field trip to Pine Mountain Settlement School this week. Students explored the campus, made their own lip balm, and learned about mountain heritage and traditions. 🌄

Kaleb McLendon recently broke the Harlan High School record in Long Jump that had stood for more than four decades. With a leap of 21'-6.5" during regional competition, McLendon had the longest jump of all Class A jumpers in 2023. Congratulations to Kaleb McLendon.
🌧 Due to today's forecast, the Harlan Green Dragon baseball camp has been moved back a day to Thursday, June 8th, and Friday, June 9th, from 5 to 7 pm at the HHS baseball field. Please share!
